Senior Kotlin/Android Developer
Location: Stellenbosch, Western Cape
Duration: 12 months

Card machine development team and a senior developer with strong Kotlin and Android experience. The card machine combines a web-based feature layer with Kotlin-based core payment functionality and Java-based device security controls.
You will develop and maintain secure, reliable Android functionality for the merchant card machine. You’ll integrate with the existing web and Java layers, help deliver new features, and support the gradual migration of appropriate legacy web functionality to Kotlin.
Key responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and maintain Android applications and components using Kotlin.
• Integrate Kotlin payment functionality with the existing card machine web layer.
• Develop or maintain features in the TypeScript/JavaScript layer where needed.
• Work with the existing Java-based device security layer and preserve its restrictions.
• Help migrate suitable functionality from the legacy web layer into Kotlin.
• Collaborate with product, testing, security, and other engineering teams to deliver production-ready features.
• Contribute to code quality, testing, release readiness, and ongoing maintenance.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience delivering production Android applications using Kotlin.
• Strong understanding of Android development and integrating application components.
• Experience with Java and the ability to work with existing Java-based Android functionality.
• Practical TypeScript and JavaScript experience, ideally in a web application.
• Ability to work across application layers and support gradual modernization.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Ideal candidate is someone with Experience: payment systems, merchant devices, card machines or POS terminals; React or React Native experience
